Clip lead or slip lead

Whats the difference between a clip-on lead and a slip lead?

Our clip-on leads are made from premium polypropylene rope and are non-toxic to animals and humans. These dog leads are a great multi-purpose dog leash, that attach to your dogs collar. These leads are great for keeping your dog safe and under control whilst out in public. All of our clip leads come with a solid gold brass snap hook to resist corrosion and avoid weakening over time.

Our slip leads are also made from premium polypropylene rope and are non-toxic to animals and humans. However, our slip leads provide the simplest way to control a dog. It is composed of a single line strung through a gold brass ring hoop at one end, to make a continuous tightening loop that goes around your dog’s neck. Slip leads adjust to the size of any dog’s neck and it is impossible for dogs to back out of them. A slip lead and collar are quick, effective and comfortable rope leash for training and everyday casual use.

How do you correctly use a slip lead?

We recommend that placement of slip leads on a dogs neck should sit high on the neck towards the ears to avoid causing the dog to cough or choke. This is also a more sensitive area of the dog neck, preventing them from pulling hard on the lead.

Don’t make the lead too tight. You should be able to easily place two fingers between the dog’s neck and the lead loop. If a slip lead is used incorrectly it can pull on the dog too tighty, again this could result in your dog gagging or coughing. To use a slip lead properly, the slip ring has to be on the side of the dog that faces you. Then it slides down. If your dog doesn't usually wear a collar on your walks or roams around the grounds where you live, then slip leads are great lead to owe.

Can I just measure my dogs old collar?

No! Make sure to NEVER just measure an old collar of your dog – the measurement will be off, and the collar will be too big. Use a flexible measuring tape and measure your dog’s neck right where you want the collar to be when your dog wears it. In addition, you can measure the inside of your dog’s old collar afterwards for a reference point only.

All of our dog collars and leads are handwash only. We recommend wiping over with warm soapy water and a damp cloth. Then hanging the collar and lead up to dry.
